The Independent in the UK ran a front page editorial recently, which revealed a number of things… about The Independent.

The Independent's Disinformation Graphic
A graphic that clearly wants you to conclude one thing. The wrong thing.

Shocking isn’t it?

It’s shocking that there’s so many terrorist-appeasing states and so few countries with morals and integrity. Shocking that this blatantly slanted editorial runs on the front page disguised as news. And yes, it is an editorial, although it purports to report only facts it is presented in a way that is obviously intended to persuade the reader that the Israel, the US and Britain are pig-headed, immoral baby-killers.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this info graphic is worse than worthless, the truth is the exact opposite of what it portrays, it is in fact a disinformation graphic.

The subject of the graphic is Israel’s response to Lebanon’s and Hezbollah’s war on Israel. Israel has been relentlessly provoked and attacked from Southern Lebanon and Israel responded with incursion into Lebanon to retaliate and to try to free its soldiers that were kidnapped by terrorists. With Hezbollah on the run and reaping the destruction it invited, the UN in characteristic fashion, leaps to the defense of terrorists and dictators. And of course every tinpot dictatorship and spineless European country goes along.

None of this The Independent believes important. No, what’s important is that the Column A has a lot more countries than Column B.

Big deal.

Morality is not a matter of numbers, it’s a matter of careful examination of the facts, of distinguishing the pro-life from the anti-life, those on the side of reality, reason and rights from those on the side of the unreal, unreason and death. And in this case the difference between the two sides couldn’t be clearer.

And since when did “ending hostilities” against terrorists end “humanitarian disaster”? All it does is strengthen and re-energize them, prolonging the slaughter of innocents. The terrorist onslaught we are witnessing today is the culmination of decades of appeasing terrorists (and giving them the Nobel Peace Prize).

Finally, to editorialize and slant coverage on the front page of a newspaper is bad enough. To use the “argument from intimidation” reveals the ugly psychology of The Independent, that of a neurotic dependent and appeaser.

If anything, the three isolated flags of the moral countries in this episode shows bravery, integrity, and principled action in the face of massive opposition. But to The Independent, they are just “left exposed” and we all know that acting alone, unilaterally, is self-evidently bad. We need to seek the approval of others, especially the consent of our enemies. The Independent’s message to the reader is clear: only pig-headed inhuman renegades would choose column B.

Slanted and sleazy.
