I lived in London for 8 years so I’ve long been accustomed to how distorted the BBC News is, especially when it comes to the Middle East. Yet, a BBC report last night [May 23, 2006] still made my jaw drop.
The blatant one-sided report is proof that the BBC News has abandoned any pretense at objectivity and instead ignores “inconvenient” facts in order to push its political agenda. That agenda happens to be pro-terrorism. More accurately I think they are fundamentally anti-Western, they’re not really pro anything.
Last night’s outrage was a piece on the withholding of funding for the Palestinians by some Western nations. You’d think the first item in such piece would be: WHY? Why are the funds being withheld? What is the nature of the group (Hamas) the funds are being withheld from? That would be very clarifying.
The BBC thinks this is irrelevant. What is relevant according to the BBC is that “…ordinary Palestinians are suffering.”
The rest of the piece spares nothing to bring you the “misery” of a couple working without pay, children who have to walk to school because their parents can’t buy gas, etc.
Not one word about the death, maiming and untold suffering wreaked by Hamas on Israelis and on innocent and Arabs. Not one picture of an exploded school bus, no pictures of the pools of blood and scattered limbs in a devastated restaurant.
No mention of the fact that most “ordinary” Palestinians have tolerated and actively supported groups like the PLO, Hamas, Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, right in their midst. No mention of the fact that Hamas were elected by these “ordinary” Palestinians.
No. The only thing you need to know, according to the BBC, is that these Palestinians are suffering and this could be alleviated by the West not withholding its handout.
This is not news. It’s a disgrace.
I wonder how long such a “news” agency would last in a truly free market.
Update 10.22.06: The BBC admits its biased. You don’t say.
